Chester Bennington's Autopsy Report Has Been Released - Men's Health

TMZ reports that officials noted that Bennington also had a bottle of Zolpidem (generic Ambien) on his dresser at the time of his death. Authorities also found an empty bottle of Stella Artois and a glass of Corona, which was partly empty. The singer did not leave a note, although he did leave behind a handwritten document that officials are calling an “apparent biography.”

Ultimately, Bennington’s cause of death was determined as death by hanging. The coroner’s report reads: “autopsy findings are characteristic of suicidal hanging. There was a history of suicidal ideation.”

At the time of his death, Bennington was enrolled in an out-patient treatment program. He’d been prescribed antidepressants, but, according to his wife, Talinda, he had not been taking them for at least the past year. According to accounts from friends, Bennington had been sober for six months,

While the toxicology report is the last chapter in Bennington’s tragic story, his death has sparked a great deal of discussion about what mental illness looks like and how insidious it can be. Both fans and celebrities alike mourned the loss of Bennington and former collaborator Jay-Z offered up several emotional tributes to the late artist.

“You just start numbing yourself … You just go and get bigger audiences and move further away from yourself. It’s tragic,” Jay-Z said in an interview.
